TNG through J.J. Abrams, an oral history.

September 29, 2018 by narfna 4 Comments

This was a hefty brick of a book. It follows the creation of Star Trek: The Next Generation through the 2016 release of Star Trek: Beyond, but because there was so much more Star Trek content created in the second twenty-five years of the franchise, this sucker clocks in at a whopping 843 pages. I read the first volume in a day and a half. This one took me six. Of course, this was also partially because this book not only had more content, but […]

Vol. 2 just as non-compliant and awesome as Vol. 1.

I waited for this trade for soooo loooong of a time. And then it wasn’t long enough, like in terms of page length; I read it in about twenty minutes (cackling through most of it), and then it was over and I was sad. But it was very good. And now we have to wait even longer for Vol. 3. These are the woes you are in for when you read an ongoing comic series, but especially this one, which is agony. Vol. 2 opens […]

I didn’t quite love this second volume of Giant Days as much as I did the first one, but this is still an unbelievably fun series and I can’t wait for Vol. 3. Vol. 2 covers issues #5-9 of the series, from a winter ball through exams, dating crises, and what happens when you watch too many episodes of Friday Night Lights in a row. Crotchety Susan is for once the only one having reliable sexytimes, while Daisy is going through a questioning phase, and […]

This was a terrible book.

I mentioned in my review of the first volume of Grounded that I hadn’t read a Superman comic since at least 1997, so this series being my first in that span of time is in retrospect, a tragedy. This book is not good. It makes me question whether or not they even make Superman comics that are good. I have some ostensibly good ones on my TBR list, but as far as I have actual knowledge, Superman in comics is boring, pompous, overwritten, and stupid. […]
