“Double, double, toil and trouble…”

December 14, 2015 by Malin 2 Comments

Just to be clear, I am not going to include any spoiler warnings for this play, since it’s somewhere between 406-416 years old (sources seem to disagree exactly when it was written). If, for some reason, you’re worried about having major plot points or deaths (there’s a whole bunch, guys) ruined for you, then it’s probably best that you skip this review entirely. So Macbeth or the Scottish play. Despite having English lit as my minor at university, and Scottish history as part of my […]

By the Pricking of my Thumbs

Let me shout it from the rooftops! I LOVE MACBETH!  Macbeth is my absolute favorite thing to teach all year…and my enthusiasm for the play must be catching because usually it’s my students’ favorite thing to read too.  Clocking in as Shakespeare’s shortest play, there’s a heck of a lot going on it in.  Rumor has it that King James I had a very short attention span (was prone to falling asleep at the theater) and loved the occult, therefore Shakespeare tried to write for […]

I apologize in advance for this review. Not only did I forget that I read this, and hence forget to rate it on Goodreads for almost two months, I read it so long ago I barely remember anything I wanted to say about it AND ALSO I didn’t take any notes. (Please refer to my reviews of the first and second books in the series for actual quality review material.) Here’s what I remember: This was my least favorite of the three adaptations. Of course, […]

“O help / Me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, / Thou art / Mine only hope.”

Holy shit. This is one of the nerdiest books I’ve ever read. It is glorious. I was initially wary of yet another book that seemingly capitalized on mish-mashing two beloved cultural entities together (see: the shitstorm surrounding the release of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies), but a good review by someone I trust convinced me to give this a shot. So glad I did. Shakespeare and Star Wars, it turns out, go absurdly well together. Like cheese and crackers, cookies and milk, pizza and beer […]
