My Highland Bride, which stars a hard-headed, Scottish nobleman, an equally stubborn, time-traveling Southern lady (& her sister), a set of unfortunate circumstances, a few too many “noble” intentions, and a long tangled road to the happy ending. It’s the second book in Maeve Greyson’s Highland Hearts series, and the ending certainly leads right into book three, whenever that might be coming. Watching Kenna and Collum but heads (and hearts) was entertaining, although I could’ve done with about a third less problems popping up in their path – at a certain point, it just seemed like ‘Ok: enough is enough already; Let’s work on getting them together, instead of prying them apart again.’ I mean, the fact that she’s a magical practitioner (let’s not call her a witch, in long-ago Scotland, shall we?) from another century isn’t enough of a problem, we gotta throw in abductions and other magical beings? No, thank you – They could’ve gotten together in the third chapter and spent the book bantering and her trying to explain her smuggled tampons in, and I would’ve enjoyed it just as much. (Maybe more: Honestly – that kind of thing is what tickles my brain. If I were trapped in the ancient past, but had been able to smuggle stuff with me, what kind of crap would actually be useful? Why wouldn’t I immediately start learning how to make antibiotics or soap or something, so that I could have meaningful, transferable skills?)
Other than that, this was a quick, light read, if you’re into random combinations of genres.
