A Little Forgettable

June 12, 2015 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

vmarsI’ve loved Veronica Mars for forever, so I can’t keep away from anything set in that world I can get my hands on. This is the second book in the Veronica Mars world and like the first, its events take place after the VMars movie. The Neptune Grand owners come to Veronica after a woman claims a Neptune staff member assaulted her and left her to die. Veronica’s job is finding out if this woman’s story is truth, lies, or something in-between. Unfortunately that’s easier said than done. Despite hiring her, the hotel is being less than forthcoming and because the attack happened months ago, the witness is having trouble remembering details.

If you’re a Veronica Mars fan, here are some things you’ll love about this book:

  1. We get to spend lots of time with Keith Mars and that’s never a bad thing. I’ve always loved Keith and it’s fascinating to see more of the story from his perspective.
  2. More Weevil. His relationship with Veronica has always been one of the most interesting of the series.
  3. Appearances from both Deputy Leo and the Manning women. These are some of the best characters they could choose to bring back.
  4. Some more details on the Logan and Veronica relationship. Not enough though!

Unfortunately, as fun as catching up with old beloved characters is, the plot of this book was only so-so. Entertaining enough to keep reading, but immediately forgettable. The details of the plot are already becoming fuzzy in my brain. Honestly, if it was a new detective series and I didn’t already love the characters, I probably would have stopped reading it. The first book, The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, was a really fun surprise, but this one is kind of lackluster.
