First graphic novel I’m counting towards the Cannonball. I read it because Duke freshmen wouldn’t. You little assholes. I had to read Italo Calvino’s The Baron in the Trees. You get this emotionally stirring beautiful book and you’re scared of a few lesbian sex scenes? You chickenshits. You lose. And how this is a Broadway musical now, I have NO IDEA.

You convinced me.
Great review. I very much agree with you.
How do college students even get to refuse the required reading? Can they actually do that? I would have refused to read Tess of the D’Urbervilles, because there are hours and days I spent reading that books that I will never get back. Fun Home is amazing, Tess of the D’Urbervilles is misogynistic Victorian misery-porn. All these modern students should just get off my lawn. In my day, we read the required reading, whether we hated it or not (or in the case of my husband, who could get away with that sort of thing and still pass with great results, skipped most of the reading and slept through many of his lectures).
You cry JESUS! JESUS! JESUS! and then he appears in a mirror with an injunction and a herd of sheep who bleat “religious persecution.” It’s pretty effective, because FEARMONGER.
