95% of this book is available for free on the internets, the other 5% is just made up.

February 11, 2016 by Red Panda Kitty 2 Comments

If you like the show Archer, you might like this book. If you don’t like Archer, then you will probably hate it.

I don’t quite know how to describe this book. It’s ostensibly written by Sterling Archer, self-proclaimed world’s greatest secret agent, and star of said animated TV show. It definitely has the same feel of the show, in that it does sound like Sterling Archer, but in my opinion it loses some of its charm in print form. For me, the cast of characters and voice actors is what makes the TV show work. Archer somehow manages to come of as a bigger asshole here since there isn’t H. Jon Benjamin’s  voice to add charisma to the character.

Also, it’s just cocktail recipes, instructions for how to dress well, hire prostitutes, etc., which since it is coming from a fictional affluent character means that none of it is remotely usable (I assume, I don’t know your life). Which I suppose is the point, but still. As Archer points out himself in the Afterword, 95% of what he wrote is available on the “internets”.

It’s a very brief read, and helped me to pass the time in the doctor’s office. I did laugh at a few spots, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend purchasing this book unless you are just a die-hard Archer fan. Or do, maybe you’ll learn something (again, I don’t know your life).

I’m always a little bewildered by these….cross-promotional books (I guess is the only way to describe them).

The shows Castle and Californication also have books “written by” their shows main characters. At least those shows are about authors, though.

    This just seems…..meh.

I don’t think I’d ever buy this, but I kinda want to buy this.
I won’t though, instead I’ll just give myself a few minutes of archer clips and HJB interviews. He’s a national treasure.
