Fake relationship brilliance

Was it Mrs. Julien who recommended a list of modern romance novels? I have failed to find the link, but whoever you are, thank for you recommending this book! (EDIT: it was Malin, thanks for the list, I have a queue at the library based on it!) It had everything I like: fake relationships, British humour, love rivals, and drama – quite literally, as a chunk of the action takes place on the stage in London’s West End.

Elaine (Lainey) Graham is an actress, forced to make love (as it were) every night to her cheating ex-boyfriend, as two of the leads in a play. Lainey has a philanthropic heart of gold, coated in the body of Jessica Rabbit.

Richard Troy is a phenomenal, ambitious actor, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but with a temper reminiscent of Russell Crowe’s phone-chucking antics.

The big problem is the public has grown tired of Richard’s temper and ticket sales are falling.

Enter the solution: the theatre manager and Richard’s PR team put their heads together and decide an image makeover is in order. People don’t love this Bad Boy, could this Good Girl make him into a new man? And will life begin to imitate art?

Lord, but I loved this. Recommended for anyone who likes celeb gossip, fake relationship tropes, and modern romance. As Molly would say: do yourself a favour.

I’m glad you liked it, but I don’t think I can take credit for it.

You have reminded me that I *really* need to update my recommendations list, it’s here if you want it (https://mrsjulien.wordpress.com/2013/07/18/so-you-want-to-read-a-historical-romance/) and I just added Act Like It as my first update.

I think it may have been me that gave you the suggestions, I can rarely resist recommending romance to people. So glad you enjoyed this, it seems to have gone down well with a lot of Cannonballers.

I thought it was you, it so often is. It’s why you’re CAPTAIN Scapegrace.
