“Not right now. I’m not wearing my stabby clothes.”

March 16, 2016 by NVVN Leave a Comment

You ever have one of those days when you find bits of a corpse, but it doesn’t belong to any of the zombies?  Foxtrot has and it’s not even the weirdest part of her day.  Actually, it’s just another day working at her boss ZZ’s mansion, where there are always guests (who are often weird), zoo animals to take care of (yes, ZZ has a zoo on her estate) and a spiritual Crossroads to maintain.

The zombies aren’t real (they’re part of a film set), but the corpse bits are.  Foxtrot is pretty sure she knows how the corpse became bits (that darn honey badger), but she isn’t sure if what trashed the corpse is also the cause of death. That’s just one of the many things that Foxtrot has to deal with:

  • Dreamy movie star (calm the hormones!)
  • Diva actress (you’re not that talented, honey)
  • Feuding telepathic pets
  • A surge of animal ghosts
  • Celebrity animal ghosts (hello, Lassie!)
  • Stoned rock star
  • Evil honey badger (or maybe that’s his normal state of being)
  • An ostrich who’s an escape artist
  • Feuding animal ghosts
  • Ninja ghost squirrels
  • Goats.  Ghost goats.  Annoying ghost goats.
  • Possible psychic
  • Trouble at the Crossroads

Foxtrot has her hands full, but she actually likes it that way.  Some (her boyfriend Ben) might even say she’s a control freak, but she is amazingly good at her job.  If I had to juggle even a third of what she does, I’d be committed to an asylum within the hour.  The book is funny and the mystery is interesting, BUT I think the author tries to hard to be funny.  I did laugh at some exchanges/scenes, just not to the extent that I think the author wanted me to.  Certain sections just screamed thirsty to me.  Overall, a decent, yet chaotic read.
