Every once in a while I read a book simply because I want something uncomplicated, porny, and with a happy ending (no, a HEA not THAT kind of happy ending-though I suppose that’s implied in the ‘porny’). This was that book. The writing is nothing particularly special and the characters are ‘romance novel’ realistic, but the sex is hot and we get a HEA and so it’s a win.
Alwaysanswerb reviewed this whole series a few months ago, and this book in particular was the one that stood out to me as something I might enjoy. So I put it on the back burner and kept it in mind for the next time I needed a quick, hot read. So thank you for that.
The plot, is your standard romance novel plot with a minor ‘twist’. These two people met in Vegas a few months back and got drunk married. They’ve since gotten a divorce, but because it’s a series and their friends are married they’re still going to be in each other’s lives. Finn comes down to San Diego where Harlow lives and the meet. There is sex. They discover that ‘oh hey I like this other person, like LIKE like them” and then they fight and there is a brief separation before everything ends up HEA.
I have complaints. I’m not fond of how the characters seemed to think that condoms were for pregnancy protection alone, I’m not saying that have to have a long deep discussion about potential STDs, but a simple “I was tested after my last partner and I”m clean. You?” would have been nice. Harlow falls into the, “I’ve never orgasmed from sex before you, even though I’ve had several partners” trope. And I think there were a few others, but the book is already slipping from my memory even though I read it less then 24 hours ago.
The sex though, that was hot. It’s of the light bondage variety, and while a ‘safeword’ is never discussed Finn makes sure that Harlow is always, always on board with what he’s doing. That alone makes this book 100% super successful. That the sex is also hot on top of the lovely consent stuff is just icing on the cake.
So if you’re looking for a quick, hot read I present this book as an option for your TBR shelf.

Book four in this series, Wicked Sexy Liar is in my (and Mrs. J’s opinion) the best of the lot, and in that, they DO have the conversation you were missing. All of these books have very hot sex, I’m pretty sure it’s in the authors’ mission statement.
That’s good to know. I don’t object to Lauren’s writing, so the next time I want something like this to read it’s good to know I can turn to her.
I just finished it and agree – I liked a of them, but thought it was the best and fixed some of the issues with earlier books.
I read the first book in the series (or rather, listened to the audio) this past week and my review will be very similar to this one. But it definitely fulfilled the “my body is too full of painkillers to concentrate” need I had.
And you know, sometimes that’s really all I want from a book.
