July stat round-up!

August 1, 2016 by ingres77 9 Comments

Okay, I did a good job this month keeping up to date with the Goodreads information on all the reviews. I’ve added the nation of origin for the authors, and will be including the original language in which the book was written going forward.

July stats:

298 reviews
Average rating: 3.62 stars
Most popular book: Dietland by Sarai Walker and The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins (3 reviews each)
Most popular author: Kristen Ashley (15 reviews)
Most reviews: badkittyuno (unsurprisingly; 28 reviews)
Fiction: 244 reviews
Nonfiction: 52 reviews
Uncategorized: 1 reviews
Most popular genre: Fantasy (59 reviews)
Male authors: 112
Female authors: 174
Oldest book read this month: Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (1814)
Books from 2016: 62
Books from the last 10 years: 229 (77%)
Most popular author countries: United States (68%), Great Britain (11%), and Canada (3%)
Avg. Goodreads rating: 3.98 stars
Avg. Goodreads vote totals: 95,626

So far in 2016:
2,172 reviews
Average rating: 3.63 stars
Most popular book: Doomsday Book, by Connie Willis (18 reviews)
Most popular author: Stephen King (24 reviews)
Most reviews: badkittyuno (146 reviews)
Fiction: 1,724
Nonfiction: 4
Uncategorized: 31
Most popular genres: Romance (459 reviews)
Fantasy (436)
Mystery (249)
Science Fiction (237)

Our monthly review breakdown:
Jan – 393
Feb – 365
Mar – 312
Apr – 278
May – 275
June – 252
July – 298

We’re still mostly reading female authors, and our favorite genres are consistently romance and fantasy, followed by science fiction and mystery.

Our five most read authors (all time) are:
JK Rowling (98 reviews)
Stephen King (87)
Rainbow Rowell (80)
Courtney Milan (79)
Neil Gaiman (69)

Our five most read books (all time) are:
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (35 reviews)
The Martian by Andy Weir (31)
The Fault in Our Stars (27)
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (26)
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis (22)

The CBR database currently contains over 8,700 reviews for I don’t know how many individual books and authors. Maybe, one day, when I get caught up I’ll try to figure that out. I’ve input Goodreads info on almost 4,000 of these books, have the sex info on over 7,900 authors, and the country information on less than 2,000.

In light of my Harry Potter reviews, I’m going back through CBR4 and CBR5 to try and input the more popular titles (and I still plan on cataloging the entire years for each), which is why JK Rowling jumped ahead of Stephen King as our most read author (I haven’t yet tallied his books from those years), and John Green jumped to number 6 (he wasn’t previously in the top 15).

If anyone has suggestions for what else they want to see, just let me know.

I've been doing this since 2015, and though I'm not going to read a hundred books a year, I plan on doing this for the foreseeable future. I also maintain the Cannonball Read database, and make infrequent updates on our reading habits. View ingres77's reviews»

Loving these! Hey, can we get a YA tag for genre? I would love to see how many YA novels we’ve read so far (or going forward)

I log that when someone writes the tag in. When I’m able to get back to my computer, I’ll let you know how many there.

I recall it not being as many as I would’ve thought, though.

I’ve tallied 252 YA reviews on this site, and 137 this year. That’s kind of weird that half the YA books are from 2016. I’m sure there’s been an error in my collection process.
