Once More for the People In the Back!

September 11, 2016 by Ellepkay 4 Comments

Add me to the chorus of people loving this book!  I reread passages as I went along, I’m already reread Beth Ellen’s copy that she lent me, I intend to buy a copy of my own,  AND I’ll probably pick up an ebook copy one day when it goes on sale.  I suspect this will be a comfort read for years to come.

I can’t even properly write about this book.  I had a big smile plastered on my face the entire time I was reading.  I felt all lit up and happy even after staying up WAY too late to finish it.  Worth every second.

Lucy Hutton is the assistant to the co-CEO of a publishing house.  Her counterpart is Joshua Templeman, and she hates him.  They spend their days antagonizing each other and competing in every way possible.  Then, an announcement comes that a new position is being created – and whoever gets it will be the other person’s boss.  The announcement coincides with a surprise steamy kiss.  The whole book is told from Lucy’s point of view, so from those pivotal moments she just had to spend the rest of the story figuring out what she wants most of all in life.  No big deal.  :-P

I’m not saying this book is without flaws.  Both characters are rather immature, and I’m quite appalled at how out of touch Lucy is with her own feelings.  But none of that can change my love for this book.  The banter!  My god, the banter!  SOOOOOO good.  The cuddling!  I had never noticed the lack of it in other books, but it is now abundantly clear – all romances should have this much cuddling.

I seriously can’t articulate my love for this one properly.  Just go read it so we can squeal with joy over it together.

The bit where they watch ER and just hold hands! He feeds her ice cream and cooks for her. More books should totally have cuddling. On my first read-through, I felt cheated that they took so long to get to the smexy parts, but re-reading it, I decided that the build-up is part of what makes the book so great.

I really like that while Lucy’s feelings change rather quickly, she’s clearly had feelings for Josh deep down for a long time, so there is no insta-love scenario. I love how he refuses to let her move too fast, making really sure of her feelings before admitting his own. I get the impression Josh isn’t really silly, but that Lucy and his repressed emotions just brought out all his immaturity.

I LOVED this book, but I am trying not to read any reviews until mine is ready.
