So YouTube isn’t just Cat Videos?

September 7, 2016 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

I heard about Lindsey Sterling from my husband who is a fan of her music. He listens classical Pandora radio when he isn’t listening to rock music so loud it bursts my ear drums. While I was listening Lindsey’s memoir I asked him if he knew she got big on YouTube because she dances and he said he’d never seen any of her videos but it explains why she is our violin playing, ballet dancer four year old niece’s “favorite violinist.”

So that was enough of a “Hey, I know that chick” reason to download Sterling’s memoir from Overdrive; Miss Sterling got me through the hours of yard work my husband and I did over the holiday weekend.

“Maybe my best isn’t as good as someone else’s, but for a lot of people, my best is enough. Most importantly, for me it’s enough.”

Lindsey was born to a middle class family that had some financial struggles during her childhood. They drove cars without AC and didn’t always have milk for cereal so it was a big deal when they relented and let a young Lindsey take violin lessons. When she went out for a Junior Miss pageant she added the dance/ movement component of her playing to set herself apart from the other violinists.

Sterling shares other personal details about her life like her struggle with anorexia and her deep beliefs in the Mormon church.  Her rise to fame was far from meteoric , she talks about performing in college cafeterias and her heartbreaking failure on America’s Got Talent. She recognizes her blessings though and gives thanks to the multitude of people who helped her along the way throughout her memoir.

She reads her own audio book and at time she is like an over-sugared chipmunk acting out various scenes from her life but overall she is very personable.  I may go check her out on YouTube to see what the fuss is about!

I read the e-book and found her writing to resemble an “over-sugared chipmunk” at times — I imagine it was 10x as bad in the audio version…
