September Stat Round-Up!

October 4, 2016 by ingres77 4 Comments

My most recent addition to the database is the birth year for each author (when available). I want to see the age at which authors are publishing their books. I just started doing this a few days ago, though, so I don’t have that information for most books. Look for it next month.

September stats:
226 reviews (-29% from last month)
Average rating: 3.61 stars (-1.4%)
Most popular book: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (4 reviews; 4.25 avg)
Most popular author: Eric Van Lustbader and Sarina Bowen (5 reviews each)
Most reviews: badkittyuno (congratulations!; 29 reviews)
Fiction: 179 reviews (-28.7%)
Nonfiction: 46 reviews (-23.4%)
Uncategorized: 1 reviews (-90%)
Most popular genre: Romance (43 reviews)
Male authors: 96 (-21.4%)
Female authors: 127 (-29.5%)

Books from the last 10 years: 174 (77%; same percentage as last two months)
Most popular author countries: United States (58%), Great Britain (8%), and Canada (5%)
Avg. Goodreads rating: 3.92 stars
Avg. Goodreads vote totals: 58,460
Avg. page count: 321

So far in 2016:

Our monthly review breakdown:

Our five most read authors of all time are:

JK Rowling (113; 4.10)
Rainbow Rowell (113; 4.26)
George RR Martin (107; 3.81)
Courtney Milan (85; 4.00)

Our ten most read books (all time) are:
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (45 reviews; 3.75 avg)
The Fault in Our Stars (39; 4.19)
Ready Player One by Andy Weir (35; 4.32)
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (35; 4.46)

The Martian by Andy Weir (32; 4.52)

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (26; 3.68)
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (25; 4.52)
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (23; 4.52)

The CBR database currently contains over 11,500 reviews for I don’t know how many individual books and authors. Maybe, one day, when I get caught up I’ll try to figure that out. I’ve input Goodreads info on almost 6,300 of these books, have the sex info on over 9,700 authors, and the country information on less than 5,600.

I’m still in the process of going back through CBR3, 4, and 5, along with various blogs for CBR1 and 2, not to mention the Pajiba reviews section of the mothership (though, I’ve only done a handful).

If anyone has suggestions for what else they want to see in the monthly stat round-up, just let me know. I’ve temporarily put the brakes on the Google Docs file for community edit.

I've been doing this since 2015, and though I'm not going to read a hundred books a year, I plan on doing this for the foreseeable future. I also maintain the Cannonball Read database, and make infrequent updates on our reading habits. View ingres77's reviews»

I’m in a war of attrition over whether to finish what I’ve started, or continue adding new things to the database.
