Oy, With the Poodles Already

January 8, 2017 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

I was a die-hard Gilmore Girls fan as a teenager and while the show waned in its final seasons I was enthusiastic about the Netflix reboot this November. Unfortunately, I found the reboot to be lacking but my love for Lauren Graham and her alter ego Lorelai will never falter. I disagree with her opinions on the musical within the show, but I forgive her for having emotionally clouded judgement. Should they bring the series back for another round of episodes I will lower my expectations, grab some Mallomars & coffee, and watch the continued saga of the Gilmore family.

“I know how lucky I am to have had such wonderful first and second acts in my career. I’m still not sure what my third act will turn out to be (Sexy Baking Competition Hostess? Flamboyant Peruvian Bingo Caller?), but if you happen to run into Betty White, tell her thank you.
I’d like to be her one day.”

Graham knows her fanbase and her memoir is geared towards that particular segment of the world. She touches on her childhood, her early career struggles and her lackluster (until Peter Kraus) love life but the bulk of her stories are about Gilmore Girls and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. She also has very nice things to say about her time on Parenthood which I have seen about three episodes of but plan to watch it the next time I need to cry for no reason.

Graham isn’t really a tabloid persona and while she has steadily worked for years her social circle seems relatively “normal” for a Los Angeles resident. While her stories aren’t particularly scandalous you get the feeling that Lauren and Lorelai have a lot in common which makes it worth while. Also, while I knew Carole King sung the Gilmore Girl theme song I did not realize she was Sophie!  Her “no videos allowed” performance for the cast and crew sounded magical. Full circle from last year’s final review!

TL;DR If you’re a Gilmore Girl or Parenthood fan this is a must read but everyone else can safely skip over.

I got this for Christmas and have been dipping into it randomly. I love how clear her voice is and how much she sounds like Lorelei.

Yes. She mentions at one point she worried Lorelai wasn’t drinking enough coffee in the reboot but then she figured “she” drinks as much coffee as Lauren does so it was probably enough
