Quick Questions with a Cannonballer: The Chancellor

February 16, 2017 by MsWas 6 Comments

How many times have you participated in CBR?

I have participated in CBR since CBR 6.

Has being a participant changed the way you read? If so, how?

In CBR 6, I had to build up my reading stamina after many years of not keeping up with it. After that I started being more selective about what I read because of the time frame. I learned to be more critical and not waste my time with a book that I’m not interested in. Keeping up with certain literary awards like the National Book Award or the Printz Award helps me keep on track with reading and giving me new ideas of what to read next. I’ve jumped into new reading experiences by joining Cannonball Read’s book club (I would never have finished Count of Monte Cristo without the book club deadline). After finishing four CBRs, I’m starting to learn what I like and don’t like much better than I had before, but I’m still finding that there are books that I like I wouldn’t have expected.

You’re about to time travel back to the 1600s. There’s a chance you won’t make it back. Which books do you take with you?

Oh boy, I always assume I’d be prepared for this type of question my mind always blanks!  I’d have to take with me The Lord of the Rings, Never Let Me Go, The Chronicles of Narnia, Redwall, Harry Potter, Everything is Illuminated, The Chosen, The Hunger Games. These are some of the books that have either sucked me into their world so much I couldn’t stop reading, or that made an impact on my life and my point of view.

How many chapters do you give a book to hook you before you give up?

I either give it three chapters or 25 pages, depending on which ever comes first.

Are you a cat person or dog person?

If I had to own a pet it would be a cat. Ironically, most of my friends own dogs, which I appreciate, because sometimes it is nice to be around the excitement and energy of a dog.

I always appreciate these! Your answers were as interesting as they were introspective.

I love these, and I’m glad that book club’s Monte Cristo adventure was a positive :)

I had no stamina for The Count of Monte Cristo–good on you for following through!

And as a dog person, I have to say: there’s a just-right kind of dog that suits best. Dogs that are too large and too misbehaved are exhausting. I’ve become wooed by cats the past few years. Especially if they’re loving snugglers.
