Sweet Steam

February 13, 2017 by Lane 1 Comment

Imogene Hale is different. She does not like men. She does not want children. She is brilliant but uneducated. She seeks to broaden her world and hopefully meet some fellow “perverts” by becoming a maid at the vampire nest. There she meets an enigmatic and very sexy inventor. A sweet story about love and coming out in a vampire riddled Victorian England. Romancing The Inventor takes place in the great Parasol Protectorate and Soulless universe but it is a stand alone novella.

This was my first f/f romance and it was nice to avoid such lovely descriptions as veiny and throbbing. Because it belongs to a greater universe of books the world building felt solid and fleshed out for so short a book. Imogene is delightful, innocent without being doe-eyed or a victim-waiting-to happen. She is pragmatic and loves math, as well as being “too pretty by half.” She wants to explore the things she has only heard of in whispers but does not have the vocabulary to ask. Imogene is thwarted in her efforts to be corrupted by the inventor’s sad past, misunderstandings, and the jealous vampires of the nest.

This book is hot but not erotica. It has a sincere love story and it is clear why the characters like each other beyond wanting to scoodleypoop.

    Scoodleypoop!

I actually have this on my wishlist because I love Carriger, but I didn’t realize it was a f/f. More excited now!
