So my sister recommended this book to me. Most of my friends and family know that I like to read, so I get many recommendations. I just have a hard time remembering who recommended what book to me since I’m usually reading four books at a time. Anyway, I remember my sister told me to read this one because she saw it on my counter and said “oh, you’re reading that book I recommended to you”. Stunning intellect I’ve got :)
Anyway, for some reason it’s taken me two months to read this book. It’s totally not because of the content of the book though. Lately I’ve had trouble reading actual books. I read almost every night before I go to bed, and that’s so much easier to do with a Kindle. My dogs get weirded out if I’m laying in bed reading and my light is still on. They just don’t think it’s bed time yet, so they wander around my room aimlessly and lick my face. They’re totally cool with the backlight from my Kindle though. Plus, hardcover books hurt when they fall on your face (because you fell asleep).
So, now that all of my ramblings are done, on to the book! The story centers on the murder of a sixteen year old girl Nicole, and her sister Toni, who was accused of and convicted with killing her. The characters are compelling, and the story pulls you in immediately. The narrative is split between 1996 when Toni and Nicole are in high school, a few months before Nicole’s murder, and the years when Toni is in and out of jail. I figured out one of the bad guys from the beginning, because the book really wants you to know that this person is bad. I did not figure out how it actually went down though, or who was involved. I liked the ending, and I’d recommend this book to others.
I think I might need to get a book light for the sanity of my dogs and my local librarians.
