We’ll be having two more #CannonBookClub discussions this year, both two day periods, Friday through Saturday: June 8-9 and November 2-3. Voting is now open to select for June’s club one of the top books in CBR history (10+ reviews and user star rating higher than 4.6). For November the choice is among books that AlabamaPink reviewed ten years ago, in 2008.
Voting is now closed.
June #CannonBookClub – Top Reviewed Books in CBR History
First up for your consideration, our summer read to be discussed June 8-9. Selections below come from a list of the top reviewed books in Cannonball Read history.
- Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- Kindred by Octavia Butler
November #CannonBookClub – AlabamaPink Books
For this discussion to be held November 2-3, we have a selection from the books that AlabamaPink reviewed on pajiba.com as part of the very first Cannonball Read. We’ve gathered links to all of her reviews (along with archive.org links so you can see the pre-disqus discussions from back in the day) and we encourage you to take a look at the books up for #CannonBookClub consideration, and maybe more. We think you’ll find her writing right up your alley.
- Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan – AlabamaPink Review
- Enchantment: The Life of Audrey Hepburn by Donald Spoto – AlabamaPink Review
- The Keeper by Sarah Langan – AlabamaPink Review
- Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson – AlabamaPink Review
- The Dud Avocado by Elaine Dundy – AlabamaPink Review
I love a good book club vote!
While I would strongly recommend any of the June choices I’m hoping Kindredwins since I’ve recently read (and reviewed) the other three
I’m hoping for that one too! I can’t read Book Thief again. Just can’t.
…..I don’t like the book thief…..
(ducks under a million YA rocks thrown)
It took me a little to get into it. I read Book Thief at the beginning of the year so either way I’m good to participate. I think I’m going to pick up Kindred regardless since it’s the only one I haven’t read. Must be a sign
I liked it, but I didn’t like it enough to go through All Of That again. Too much for me.
I agree. I really want Kindred to win (because I own it in both dead tree and audio, and haven’t read it yet), and I really don’t have the energy to re-read The Book Thief before book club (which I’d have to do, as I read it years ago and only vaguely remember it). If I’m going to torture myself by re-reading books set during World War II, I’ll re-read Code Name Verity.
Kindred is so good! You should read it soon anyway even if it doesn’t win.
I want to read Apathy and Other Small Victories even if we don’t discuss it!
I observe there are few takers for Gatsby, ha!
Hit the amazon link and go for it! Can’t wait for your review.
Looks like I’m one of the only Great Gatsby fans here. LOL
I love Gatsby but I reread it (and reviewed) last year!
