Can you help Bear find the treat of all treats?

September 8, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Bear’s Spooky Book of Hidden Things: A Search-and-Find Adventure is truly an adventure. Gergely Dudas has made each page very busy with hidden treats our friend Bear is looking for. Of course, none are his beloved honeycomb.

The illustrations are detailed and very bright. They are fun to search on. However, this is not meant for a very young child. The pages can be too detailed sometimes. (I am still looking for the wand). And some of the items Bear must find might not be known to a child. Honestly, I am not sure how many people might now what a gourd is.  And I had to look at the last page where, thankfully, all of Bears treats are laid out on his bed and floor of his room to see what the masquerade mask even looked like (and I know what it is).

This Halloween story is a treat to read (the basic story is very simple and straight forward) but if you have that younger child you might have to adapt what they can find to fit their level (how many mummies? Do you see the rake? How many eyes do each ghost-fox have?). You can also grow with it as you child grows as well.

As an adult, it was interesting to see what items I noticed first: candy corn (before I knew I was looking for it); the skull and donut!  This would be a great book for children no younger than 5 (and then with help most likely) up to about 7 or 8 (and that might be a younger 8).
