I am not even sure I follow Chrissy Teigen on Twitter, but everything I have read indicates she is bright, witty and compassionate. Plus, I have heard a lot of positive buzz about all the food she makes, and I was in the mood for some new comfort food recipes. Cravings it was to be for this particular bingo square. So, thank you interlibrary loan for bringing me this delightful book!
My spouse is allergic to poultry, so we don’t generally eat it at home. Consequently, I don’t have a variety of basic chicken recipes in my repertoire but we do go all in on chicken when he is away. I used a few recipes from Teigen’s book, including chicken noodle soup and sesame chicken noodles. Both of these turned out very well, although I served the sesame noodles warm rather than cold. The soup is made with store bought rotisserie chicken as well, which made it an easy pick for a single parenting weeknight dinner.
We tried a few other recipes as well but my two very favourite were the Dutch Baby Pancake and Jok Moo. I have wanted to try a Dutch Baby for a long time, but the recipe always seemed a bit complicated when compared to regular pancakes. However, Teigen has us mix the batter in a blender/food processor, which made it feel very easy and quick. It was tasty as described in the book; the second time I made it I included apple slices and it did not rise as nicely as the first one (as was to be expected), but it was still delicious. I would consider this recipe to be very reliable and flexible. The second thing I fell totally in love with was Jok Moo, a Thai rice and pork porridge. It was delicious – dense, a bit salty, very easy to make, totally moreish. It was the first time I ever tried this, and it was so good and totally unintimidating given the easy instructions in the book.
I really liked this book. Teigen talks about how fun it was to write with her collaborator Sussman, and it looked like fun. The photos are good and the instructions are very clear, with each recipe preceded by a breezy introduction that wasn’t overly bloggy (you know what I mean). The ingredients were generally all things I would either already own or could easily buy, and she didn’t call for any unusual equipment or time consuming techniques. I know she just published a second volume, which I would also like to try, I like this one so much.

Same. I want this cookbook.
I was flipping through the second one at the book store Saturday afternoon… it looked just as good as this one.
I was visiting our warehouse the other day and saw it, so I had to buy it (hooray for employee discounts!). I might love it even more than the first one, because she accepts that having two kids is hard and nobody has time to make fancy recipes. I can’t wait to make some of this stuff. She has some crazy ideas about Kings Hawaiian buns and I am on board for all of them.
