Halloween is the BEST holiday ever. Even better than my birthday and Christmas. And Eek! Halloween is a Sandra Boynton book, so ’nuff said. She is better than Halloween. Okay maybe I would not go that far, but I would go as far to say it might be hard to find a better combination for a Halloween book.
Boynton’s funky chickens are at it again. They do not know what to do about the creepy events that are going on: “Witches, wizards, robots, and an alarmingly enormous mouse (eek!) are prowling around town tonight…” and they do so ever want to get to the bottom of things, but they might not be able to uncover their eyes long enough to do so.
This version is done in the large lap-sized board book. It is the perfect format for this story. The child can hold on tight to it and browse and the adult also can hold on and be able to read for story time. It can be used sitting one-on-one or for a large group. The spooky good times that the chickens and friends get into will have you and your audience laughing, mooing, oinking and clucking out loud.
This book is great for the toddler or even a slightly advanced early reader. It also is great for the person who has a larger Sandra Boynton collection than I do Halloween costumes and ideas!
So “Relax, silly chickens! It’s HALLOWEEN!” and have some fun reading about the coolest holiday on the books in a book!
I realize that you are not reviewing Room on the Broom (pictured above), but I have to tell you that I love this book and I use it a lot in my kids’ ethics class to talk about sharing and cooperation. It’s a year round favorite.
I am also a Sandra Boynton fan. Her drawings are so delightful.
I’ve enjoyed Room on the Broom as well. The cartoon they did can be a little off-putting depending on my mood though! (Hadn’t thought about using it in a classroom). Sandra Boynton is a great artist. Even if I’m not a fan of the book, I love the illustrations!
