While there are some funny moments in Santa Bruce (one little girls Christmas gift wish is very amusing but makes me a little more a little bit scared! And I am nervous especially of her enthusiasm at the end when she gets something slightly different than what was asked for). But if I was Bruce? I would eat my “family.”
If you know the Bruce books by Ryan T. Higgins you know this book. It just has a Christmas theme attached to it. When Bruce (who only wants to sleep is forced to stay awake for Christmas) is mistaken by the youngsters of the forest as Santa, the trouble begins and keeps on growing. And growing. But while his friends who got him into this do try and help, it turns into a lot of work for poor Bruce. (Um…Bruce remember you are a bear and a meat eater….) But, of course, in the end it all works out. And soon grumpy Bruce can go to bed…. Until next year comes around.
If you or your child, or grandchild, niece or nephew, or your classroom are fans of Bruce and this crazy gang of critters, you will be a fan of this addition to the series. Or if you are a fan of his We Don’t Eat Our Classmates and not aware of Bruce, you should pick this up as well.
Higgins signature style jumps off from every page with every word written and with every colorful, detailed illustration drawn.
