CoffeeShopReader's Reviews:

A Tamer Lucifer than Tom Ellis

June 27, 2018 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Given the intricacy and violence of the other two books in the series I’ve read, I was a little surprised at how tame Lucifer actually was in Kill the Dead. I was all ready for some kind of intricate, elaborate super-scheme when the devil hires Stark at the end of Sandman Slim for bodyguard duty. The only thing for most of the novel that Lucifer seemed to be up to was actually supervising his biopic and using that as an excuse to stay away from […]

Cooking with Magic

June 17, 2018 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I was in the local bookstore to pick something up, and what I was looking for wasn’t there. I browsed around a little since I had a 20% off coupon, and I saw this: The Wizard’s Cookbook. I made an impulse purchase. I regret nothing. This is a cookbook, but all the recipes are based on characters from modern fantasy literature and include everything from the expected Harry Potter and Wizard of Oz to the equally cool but less expected Magica DeSpell, Link, Asterix and […]

I annoyed myself when I realized that I’d skipped a novel. This is in fact the third, not the second. In itself, this isn’t a bad thing, except I now know major spoilers from that installment. Then I realized, that had I read some of those spoilers in their story, I might have had to quit the series since a character apparently dies of whom I was quite fond in the first novel. That would have been a bit of  a shame (the giving up) […]

Define Skeeve

The best thing about this book was that when I got home from picking it up from the library and opened it, I discovered that on the inner title page was the following: I don’t think I’ve ever actually considered “losing” a library book on purpose before. About a year or so ago, I read one of the later additions to this series and I enjoyed it, so I decided to see how the whole thing got started. Myth Adventures One is a composite of […]
