Officially Did Not Finish, 2016

December 30, 2016 by NTE 3 Comments

A few years ago, I came to the realization that I did not have to finish a book, if I wasn’t enjoying it.  This was – to say the least – a startling revelation for me, because I had previously trudged through every. single. word. of every. single. book., even if I despised it.  It led to some pretty miserable reading days.  But since I’ve stopped doing that, I not only read more, I enjoy what I’m reading more, because I know that I’m reading […]

Picture books, helping me get closer to Cannonball

December 30, 2016 by NTE Leave a Comment

Maxwell The Monkey Barber by Cale Atkinson – Super cute, quick read, catchy refrain, and a smart, caring monkey barber make this title a good addition to your kid’s library. I’m a Lot of Sometimes by Jack Guinan – The subtitle (A Growing-Up Story of Identity) is apt, the art work cheery and entertaining; the story, informative without being too preachy. Definitely fits into the “what the heck are feelings and what do I do with them” genre of picture books that’s essential if you’ve […]

Now, just because they can read on their own does not mean that you can’t read these books with them, just saying.  Because that’s definitely the case with this first book: Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli & Francesca Cavallo – So the only problem with this book is that I only ordered one copy.  And now I have about ten different girls I want to give a copy to. Because guys, it’s SO GOOD.  There’s 100 different amazing women, with 100 […]

Books I am Giving As Gifts This Year (Picture Book Edition)

December 19, 2016 by NTE 3 Comments

So, there’s going to be three parts to this one – Picture books, early readers/middle grade books, and grown-ups.  Because books are perfect books forever, for everyone the end. Up first, picture books.   Little Blue Truck, Little Blue Truck’s Beep Along Book, Little Blue Truck Leads The Way & Little Blue Truck’s Christmas by Alice Schertle, Illustrated by Jill McElmurry – Do you have a three-year-old boy in your life? If so, chances are that he is obsessed with cars.  And trucks.  And construction […]
