Lucy Parker’s London Celebrity series has been one of my favorite romance series of the past few years. In general, they have been loosely connected, with characters from previous books showing up in later books. However, until Headliners, they have been stand alone books. In order to understand an important division between the MCs in Headliners you will need to have read The Austen Playbook. I will do my best to avoid spoilers, but you can assume that Freddy and Griff have ended up happily together. Near the end […]
I follow a lot of authors on twitter. Every once in a while a bunch of writers will start talking about one book. A couple of months ago, that book was Jane Doe. Authors, all women but from several genres, were reveling in Jane’s darkness and her passion for revenge. Jane has diagnosed herself as a psychopath. She doesn’t feel emotions the way normal people feel them. It makes her good at business but bad at relationships, with one exception. Steven hurt the only person Jane […]
The lovely and amazing narfna was my CBR10 Book Exchange gifter last year. She shopped from my wish list and bought Salt Fat Acid Heat. I love cooking and cookbooks. I have worked as a chef professionally, but all my training has been at home and ad hoc in bakeries and small food shops. Samin Nosrat’s training has been in some of the best kitchens in the world. When I read how she got her job at Chez Panisse I was horribly jealous and thought, […]
I was scrolling through Twitter one day last week and happened on an author (@mel_thegreat) live tweeting her read of a romance novella by Suleikha Snyder (@suleikhasnyder), another romance writer I follow. I follow a lot of authors on twitter, and a large subset of those authors write romance. They are delightful. But back to the thread. I had seen the book advertised on Amazon for $.99, but hadn’t been motivated enough to buy it. Mel’s enthusiasm for the book and the bits of language she tweeted convinced me to go get it.
The whole time I was listening to the audio version of Drew Magary’s The Hike, I wasn’t sure why I was listening, and yet I could not stop. It was a weird mix of my thing and so not my thing. When I was finished, I wasn’t sure what the point was, but weeks later, I’m still thinking about it. I was initially drawn to it because I remembered Scootsa1000’s review, and that she had really liked the crab. Funny. Surreal. Foul mouthed talking crab. […]
Do you even know how much I heart narfna? I knew I was in for a treat when her name was on the paper that fell out of Salt Fat Acid Heat. Speaking of Salt Fat Acid Heat, I watched the 4 episode Netflix series and I recommend it, even if cooking shows aren’t your thing. Samin Nosrat is such a joy. I have read the many positive reviews of Circe and I am so excited about reading it. I asked and narfna provided.
