Jen K's Reviews:

Give Quinto More Books to Narrate Now!

July 29, 2018 by Jen K 2 Comments

I downloaded this novella a while back when it was an Audible deal of the day and finally got around to it.  This is actually the first time I’ve read anything by John Scalzi despite his popularity among certain nerdy readers, and I am not sure how representative this piece was of his other work, but it left me wanting more.  Zachary Quinto was also a great narrator for this, and basically needs to narrate all the things from now on. I came into this […]

An Entertaining Setting Straight of Facts with Some Sobering Themes

July 23, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

It took me a while to read this one since each chapter is self contained so it was easy to read a chapter between other books, and sometimes the break was necessary given how many chapters ended on a similar dark note.  Each chapter in this book deals with a different animal, the myths we still see in pop culture about many species today, and the historical development of some of those views and how the natural sciences have evolved over the years. The chapters […]

So This Actually Worked …

July 23, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After reading Malin’s review with Alexis’s comments of this novel, I was intrigued to see how a romance would pull off turning one of the four horsemen, a man responsible for countless deaths through plague, into a romantic lead.  And much like they said, it mostly worked. I have rooted for plenty of vampires, shape shifters and other fantastical heroes with a dark past that would be inexcusable in reality but still, someone that can take out hundreds of thousands of lives at once? Definitely […]
