I mentioned this in a review last year, but I’ve been in a huge reading slump. I’ve just been so unmotivated to finish anything. According to Goodreads I’ve been reading this particular book since the end of November, meaning it took me over a month to finish it which is really unusual for me. I’m hoping the goal I’ve set for myself this year will goad me into reading more, but I’ve also given myself permission to completely fail at it so that anxiety doesn’t […]
And Sometimes You Just Shouldn’t Read the Sequel
Pollyanna Grows Up is the second Pollyanna book, but the last one written by Eleanor Porter. It’s a servicable read, but a lot of the charm of the first book is lost in this one. The plot is split in two parts. The first half of the book is still about young Pollyanna, not even a year after her accident and recovery in the first book. She’s sent to stay with a complete stranger in Boston while her aunt and Dr. Chilton go off to […]
The Wrecked World of A Fairy Tale
I’m going back on forth on whether this is a two star or three star books. We’ll say two and a half and round up (I rounded down on Goodreads, cause I’m mean) It’s fine, I liked it better then Wicked, but there are a lot of problems and it’s mostly just meh. Except it’s also Oz, and guys, I love Oz. Let’s start with Oz; I’ve been in love with the Oz books for as long as I’ve been reading. I’ve only read the Baum books, though […]
I’m not actually sure O’Malley did much chess research
The Rook is an urban fantasy novel and was The Sword and Laser’s pick for December. It’s been on my TBR pile for a while, so this was the kick I needed to get started, and I found it extremely readable. The plot is paced quickly and the characters likeable. I’m looking forward to reading book two and kind of hoping there are more to come in the series. Myfanwy (rhymes with Tiffany) Thomas opens her eyes in the pouring rain with absolutely no memory […]
