I like books, but I'm SUPER picky about them. To clarify- a three star rating means that I liked the book and found nothing objectionable in it. As 3 is the average between 1 and 5 this means the book is an average read, perfectly competent but not outstanding.

A Call to the Past

July 12, 2016 by melanir 1 Comment

Thank you fellow Cannonballers for introducing me to Rainbow Rowell. So far, every book of hers that I’ve read has been fantastic and it’s so nice to find a new reliable author. Landline was another fantastic book, a simple and quick read for a lazy afternoon. Georgie McCool and her husband Neal are having marital problems, huge problems. Problems that are mostly due to a lack of actual communication. So when Georgie tells Neal, the day before, that she is unable to go on their […]

If only I’d read this right after the others

Winter is the conclusion to Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and neatly wraps up the story in a tidy little bow, maybe a bit too tidy if I’m honest. I’m not exactly sure what happened here, but I did not enjoy this entry as much as the previous books in this series. I blew through the Lunar Chronicles sometime last year and thought they were excellent YA, but I had been putting of reading this one and ended up skimming through most if it and outright skipping […]

Untie My Heart

Untying the Moon is a lyrical, haunting novel that just sticks with you. I went to visit my parents last week and my mother handed me this book to read while I was there. The author did a book reading in their little Montana town while I was there and my mom lent the novel to me before she’d even read it so that I could finish before I left.  I spent the next day and a half engrossed in the world that Malphrus created, captured by her beautiful […]

If only these novels stayed in The Edge

July 12, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

Confession, I only read half of this novel and then the last chapter. I don’t know if there are going to be any more books in this series, but I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of them. I’m about a week and a half out of finishing this one (which is actually unique, I tend to review immediately after finishing so the thoughts are all still fresh. But I was on vacation and have quite a backlog of books to review, oops) and I’m […]
