One of the things I have loved most about joining this site is the way you all have influenced my reading habits. I have been reminded about why I loved a series. I have read (and loved) books that I would never, ever have picked up on my own. And I have been introduced to new authors, in this case Rainbow Rowell. This book broke my heart in all of the good ways. Eleanor is the new girl in school and Park grudgingly allows her […]
Insert Clever Broom Metaphor Here
Immediately after finishing Clean Sweep, I started on this one and devoured it whole. I adore everything about this book. And what’s really awesome is that it looks like the series is adding alternate dimensions into its ‘science’ so they can add characters from their other books. (Which is what happens in this one, but they’re from a series I haven’t read yet, so I found out by reading the Goodreads reviews). It’s completely ridiculous ‘science’ and I love it. In this one, Dina is […]
Urban Fantasy with Delusions of Science Fiction. I LOVE IT
Clean Sweep is the start of a new Urban Fantasy series by Illona Andrews, the husband and wife writing team responsible another series that places pretty highly on my favorites list. Ah, Gothic romance novels. Dark and stormy nights, curses, ghosts, witches, innocent maidens, dark broody lords. This is not the sort of thing one should find boring. And yet, The Shadows of Stormclyffe Hall is so predictable and so boring. To add insult to injury, that cover is the hottest thing about the book. I had to look at the Goodreads summary to refresh my memory about the character names. So Jane, an American graduate student, is obsessed with Stormclyffe Hall and is writing her […]
