*This review is for the audiobook version of Lafayette in the Somewhat United States* This book was really fun to listen to. The actors were well chosen, (someone should put Nick Offerman in a Washington biopic immediately) but it doesn’t hold up well on reflection. She begins by talking about Lafayette’s return to the United States in 1824 and I got excited. I’d never heard about this! After a few anecdotes from his trip the book takes a turn into Revolutionary War history, which is […]
I Promise The Next Review Will Be Positive
I don’t know if I’m in a pissy kind of mood recently, or if I just haven’t been listening to good books, but here’s another bad review. This is another paranormal book from a series, but in this case the rest of the series was ok, not great, but fine for doing dishes or folding laundry to. In this instalment, we jump away from all of the original characters and storylines from the first 12 (don’t read the first one, it was SO BAD I […]
The Most Boring Thing I’ve Read In Years
I read a lot of crap novels. Generally as audiobooks while folding laundry or doing dishes, but loads of them. This is one of the few books I haven’t finished. It was just so boring. I’d started the series with the water one, which was fine. It wasn’t good, but not too bad. The second one was Spirit Bound, which was less fine than the first, but not the worst thing I’d ever listened to. The reader kept pronouncing the name Levi as “Levy,” which […]
1920s Haunted Assylum? Yes, Please!
This is the second novel by Simone St James I’ve listened to, and both were gripping. A little bit of a slow start, but they pick up and just race to the finish. I picked a good one to start my Cannonball Read adventure! We start with Kitty Weekes, a poor London girl on the run, pretending to be a nurse at a psychiatric facility for Shell Shock patients returned to Britain after the first World War. But of course, not everything is as it seems […]
