Finishing an Exceptional Series and Grading on a Curve

September 21, 2018 by Alexis 4 Comments

This is the 10th book in a series that is arguably the pinnacle of urban fantasy writing to date. If you have any interest in urban fantasy with strong female characters, rich world-building, stellar smolder, and compelling action then this is the series for you. If you’ve picked up a few urban fantasy books and have been turned off by the cliched alpha-males, derivative world-building, and predictable plots, then this series is for you. If you’ve got trouble

Do you love the giddy ridiculousness of a good heist story or a long con that finally comes to fruition and leaves the sneering, callous rich bewildered, humbled, and a little poorer? The “Gentleman Bastard sequence,” as author Scott Lynch has called it, has….some of that. If you dig through a whole bunch of other stuff. #CBR10Bingo: This is the end – Magic Triumphs

As such, there may be spoilers for the contents of at least previous books, as well as mild spoilers for the plot of this one. More importantly, it is NOT the place to start. The proper place to begin is Magic Bites. The book is a bit rough, but stick with it, this series is among the best paranormal fantasy out there. I’ve spent more than eleven hours on a […]

Even though someone else said it better

I saw a Goodreads description or review that called Cantero the heir to the Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams throne. Nope to that. The more I think on it, the more I like This Body’s Not Big Enough For Both Of Us, but it’s not the same level of clever, especially since it’s much more limited in the scope of the allusions. The wordplay of Pratchett is not there, nor is the narrative originality, or at least not original in the same way. Cantero’s pretty direct […]
