Go Ask Malice

This book needs a trigger warning (if you’re into that sort of thing.) It’s rare that a “dark” spin on the Alice mythos actually lives up to that (shallow) attribution. This one’s filled with so much violence (sexual violence, regular violence, torture) that even the decapitation-happy Queen of Hearts would be like “Damn, girl, you went there?” It’s a pretty good book, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into. Twenty-first book reviewed as part of the 130 Challenge. Where do I even begin? I think I’ll begin with how I went about reading this book. Well, I didn’t read it, I listened to it and what an absolutely enthralling experience it was! I know I had decided not to do audiobooks anymore, but I listened to the version by Eric Leach on LibriVox and it was the best thing ever! He’s done various accents and voices and tones and emotions and has enacted the […]

Here we are, all thinking that it’s the Zombies we’re going to have to protect our brains from, but what if it’s really our computers?

This technological thriller is the kind of book that is written to terrify you into not wanting to so much as glance at your smart phone, lest it attack. AKA, the PERFECT kind of book to be reading on your Kindle late at night; AKA the book my 5th-grade-teaching, technophobe, grammarian grandmother would have agreed with 5000%. It’s a book that takes a serious look at the dependency of people on technology and one of the (oh so numerous ways) that can come back to […]
