This was delivered to the wrong door somehow (the address was TOTALLY right- so I’m not sure why they didn’t deliver it properly) but my lovely neighbor, to whom the amazon people wrongly delivered the package, knocked on my door yesterday and handed it over. Weird, but YAY! I got it. Anyway, thank you, I’m super excited to delve into these.
A Belated Thank You Due to My Attempt at Delayed Gratification
A lovely package arrived on my doorstep last Tuesday and I wanted to tear it open right away. However, as a community college professor halfway through finals week with a pile of portfolios and final projects to respond to and with a bad case of “Is it break yet?” procrastination looming, I decided to use the gift from Yesknopemaybe as motivation. Get your Comp 1 grades in, and you can open the box!
It worked! I got the grades in and was delighted to discover that Yesknopemaybe had sent me two books I really wanted to read. I squealed when I saw Spinning Silver and I have heard really good things about She Rides Shotgun.
Though I still have one class’s grades to finish (they’re due tomorrow at noon), the start of break is in sight and visions of sipping cocoa (or something stronger) and digging into these books are dancing in my head (suck it, sugar plums!).
Thanks again to Yesknopemaybe!
Book exchange!!
Thank you so much to Jelina for all this awesome stuff! Towers of stuff, weird facts about the Czech Republic. CHOCOLATE. And two awesome books that I am looking forward to read. Thank you especially for the little notes about why you like them so much. Makes me look forward to them all the more.
Also now I definitely have to sign up for CBR9. Thanks I guess. ;)
(Also I see your creative lettering is already paying off! SO cool!)
Books are the best gifts!
Many thanks to Malin for spoiling me this year. So excited to have a hardcopy of The Hating Game which I read and loved earlier this year (I’m so behind on reviews ya’ll). It’s a book I know I’ll be rereading whenever I need a pick-me-up. Fingersmith and The Princess Bride have been on my to be read list for literally ages so I’m thrilled to get my hands on those for 2017. Thanks again!
CBR8 book exchange thank you Lauri
Thank you Lauri, this was waiting for me when I got home today. I had just finished battling traffic, made easier by the audio book and then this. What a lovely surprise. Love! And Livie says thanks for the box.
Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is this dead person and why does she have my face?!
I received this book as one of my CBR Exchange gifts from The Chancellor (thank you!!) and was delighted to receive it. It has become a nice tradition as I received the first in the series as part of my exchange gift last year. Whereas it took me about a year to open the first one, this was not the case the second time around, and it was my first book of the new year because I knew what I was in for: compelling and excellent writing with a solid mystery and no “storybook” ending, and this installment did not deliver.
This isn’t a sequel in the typical sense: their is character continuity, but the protagonist from the first novel is only mentioned in this one, and instead the other main character is the focus of this tale. When a women who bears a striking resemblance to a detective turns up dead, the investigation into the murder is able to take a turn into a bizarro undercover operation which puts the investigation, and the detective in danger.
This novel didn’t have quite the same hold on me as the first, as I knew better what to expect from French, but it was still a well-told mystery that keeps the reader wondering what will happen next. If you, hypothetically used to watch a LOT of Law and Order, but now you are trying to be better than that, but you really aren’t, then this novel is for you. Hypothetically. I look forward to seeing where the next installment takes me.
