Shakespearean satire. Not my favorite, but not Moore’s fault – he rules.

September 1, 2017 by ardaigle 2 Comments

Christopher Moore is one of my top five favorite authors. I first discovered him when I read “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal,” the imaginative and satirical fictional account of the life of Jesus Christ, the years that are missing from the Bible.  It’s actually my favorite book, which I will disclose depending on the audience.  (If I don’t think they’ll have the sense of awareness to appreciate it, then I go with 1984, which is a close second). I wonder if this author would call me a snowflake?

When I was about halfway through Christopher Moore’s A Dirty Job I had to go on Amazon to check the other reviews to see if anyone else was bothered by what I was, i.e. the rampant casual racism/sexism. Out of the eleven one-star reviews and however-many two-star ones, I only saw one that mentioned my concerns, so maybe I’m blowing that aspect out of proportion. The first, The Collapsing Empire, was just recently released and is the first in a trilogy (and his first book under a 10 year, 13 book contract that includes a sequel to Lock In and a new book in the Old Man’s War series). The second, Agent to the Stars, is his first novel, self published on his website in […]

So  I’ve mentioned before that Practical Demonkeeping is one of my favorite Christopher Moore books. I reread it recently because I found a copy of the sequel at Half Price Books and wanted to refresh my memory of the first book before reading the second. The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove is that sequel and it was honestly pretty terrible. It doesn’t feature hardly any of the characters from the first book, although it does have the same setting. I’m not really sure why he bothered to […]
