So, I think I found a new favorite writer. The kind of writer that necessitates my active engagement whenever a new book is published. I mean, look, this book didn’t fundamentally rewire my brain. I’m not re-invigorated, or inspired to change my life. This isn’t like when I read Moby Dick last year. But this book was good. And John Dies at the End was just the right blend of chaotically eccentric and delightfully whimsical. And Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits was charming, and fun, […]
Demonic boogaloo and the electric slide
This book is a hot mess. And I mean that in the best possible sense. *minor spoilers* There’s a dog that wanted half its body shaved so that it could steal food easier. I’ve actually owned a hard copy for years and years and never bothered to pick it up, and that is so frustrating. I could have […]
Not a creature was stirring, not event a fruit bat.
Wow, five years in a row and my Christmas tradition (rereading this little tome) is going strong! Love this little book and its irreverent look at the holidays. This year I had my book club read it, as they really enjoyed “The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove” and it is a quick read, which is perfect for the busy holiday season. Reviews from my club were mostly favorable, though one person who was listening on audio wasn’t a big fan, though her criticism was that […]
