Without music, life would be a mistake

CBR10Bingo: So Popular One of my favorite bookstores in the world is Provincetown Books, a tiny space in the center of town, right next to Adams Pharmacy. The owner’s selection is very much my taste, and she always seems to have just what I’m looking for at the moment. This summer, I was on a mission to fill out a few more CBR10Bingo squares, and Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven was at the top of my list. Of course she had it in stock. […]

Bingo Square: Underrepresented This trilogy seemed to be very popular around the time I started getting into YA and dystopian novels but despite the positive reviews, I never got around to it. I think I was worried about overdoing it and burning myself out but I always meant to get around to the trilogy.  It’s just other, newer books kept coming up.  I finally downloaded it this year, but was trying to push myself to work through earlier downloads, so I still hadn’t started it […]

In terms of world building, it’s a unique one in the vast landscape of dystopian, steampunk, young adult fare. Hundreds of years in the future, we have somehow ruined […]

Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

June 27, 2018 by Ale 4 Comments

Buzzfeed’s book reviews have never steered me wrong, so when one of their lists suggested The Power as a must-read Dystopian novel, I felt I should give it a go. And it was WORTH IT. Disturbing, mind-bending, and surprising, The Power feels like this generation’s answer to The Handmaids Tale. I was not surprised to read that Alderman thanks Margaret Atwood in her acknowledgements because the book follows an updated take on the The Handmaid’s Tale structure. Complete with excerpts from fictional archaeological findings to the mind blowing epilogue and […]
