Margaret Atwood gets weird, y’all

March 20, 2018 by lowercasesee Leave a Comment

A coworker recommended this one after I’d said I’d watched and really, really liked Alias Grace. Before this, the only Atwood book I had read was Handmaid’s Tale and while this also deals with a dystopian future and the end of humanity as we know it, it’s more of a science fiction than philosophical end. It is also waaaay too clearly just the first book in a series. Like The Hobbit took one book and divided it into three movies – I feel like Oryx and Crake took one movie […]

(Probably) uncontroversial opinion: Margaret Atwood is an outstanding female author.  I intentionally said “female author” instead of just author because I think that in this specific instance, being a woman gives Atwood an edge to make her characters, especially the female ones, incredibly realistic.  She digs into topics and issues with such clarity that you find yourself better understanding moments that have happened in your own life.  I adore her, and everything I have ever read by her, and this is no different. In this […]

I was looking at Alias Grace but my friend assures me I will love the TV show, so I’m holding off on that one for now. So where to go? Well, the title of The Heart Goes Last kept poking at something in my brain, and so, off I went. It’s as simple as that. And what I got was something very unique and […]

No. Just. No. You need more? Fine. Here’s more. I was reading the introduction to this because Margaret Atwood wrote the introduction and it was lovely. Here was this old lady who decided to write a comic book about a man who’s both bird and cat even though she’s so old that she no longer has a cat, because she is afraid she would trip over it. Then she starts talking about Catbird. She dives into the themes of a man being both a cat […]
