Too many humans

November 16, 2018 by octothorp 1 Comment

My “award winner” bingo square belongs to Martha Wells’ murderbot opener “All Systems Red,” purchased from another CBR review, but I’m a bad person and can’t remember who to credit.  Let’s just give the glory to Emmalita. Anyway, I was charmed by the plot description of an AI gone unexpectedly rogue who uses their newfound sentience to… laze about, hide their feelings, and binge watch a soap opera.  My conciousness is neither unique nor hard-won, and I pretty much spend my life doing the same, […]

Humans Are Bad at Security/Did They Think I was Human?

CBR10 Bingo – Exist Strategy, This is the End I fell in love with Murderbot in the very first paragraph of All Systems Red. I loved the first two novellas without reservation. The third novella, Rogue Protocol, was more of a challenge, and then Exit Strategy wrapped the series up nicely and left room for more Murderbot. I would really like more Murderbot. Perhaps some Murderbot and ART adventures. Murderbot and I both had a harder time with Rogue Protocol because of the human form robot Miki. Miki is the Barney […]

Murderbot is on a mission. A mission of vengeance. He’s* determined to bring the corporation GrayCris as much pain as possible, and has a plan to do it. Except he keeps getting distracted by all these pesky humans who need helping all the time; dammit, that’s not his job anymore, and he doesn’t like them anyway! (He sort of likes them.) *I have once again reverted to male pronouns for this character. I give up and surrender to my brain. I honestly didn’t even know […]

Murderbot strikes again, is even more loveable.

Murderbot <3. I feel like just making that one word and its accompanying symbol my entire review, but that would be doing a disservice to the book and also to anyone potentially reading this review who has not yet let Murderbot into their lives. Murderbot is life. Murderbot is love. Just kidding. If Murderbot saw me talking about Murderbot like this, Murderbot would be appalled. Murderbot is all about not dealing with feelings at all costs. Which is too bad, because as a newly free […]
