Sweet and Funny People Falling in Love. Was That So Much to Ask?

February 9, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

The Weight of It All was one of those quietly enjoyable reads that are hard to review. It was wonderfully simple and just plain nice. In this contemporary romance set in Sydney Australia, two sweet people fall in love in a funny and engaging romance short on drama and long on kindness. Freshly dumped and taking his ex’s parting salvo of “old and fat” to heart, Henry Beckett and picks himself up and ventures to the local gym to see what he can do about […]

A book I would never would have found without CBR.

After I read emmalita’s review (which in turn was inspired by Orleana’s), I immediately downloaded this book. I was just super in the mood for it. The premise, the descriptions of food, smoochies, clichés . . . just the whole thing. And it didn’t really disappoint, though the writing style isn’t my favorite. I read Orleana’s review and promptly bought the book. It was a lovely $.99 read. I recommend it if you are looking for a gentle, sweet romance between two nice guys. Henry’s boyfriend of 8 years suddenly dumps him because he is “fat and old.” Henry goes to the gym to get his boyfriend back, and in the process comes out of the shell he had tucked himself into. Reed, a ridiculously good looking personal trainer, takes Henry on as a client and as a […]

His Public Thor and Bedroom Loki, So Henry Claims

January 22, 2017 by Orleanas 5 Comments

What’s the best way to get over the ex who dumped you for being overweight? Hook up with a hot physical trainer, of course! Except, N.R. Walker’s The Weight of It All (2016) isn’t a romance about revenge but about self love and acceptance. Henry Beckett is 35 and has just been dumped by his live-in, boyfriend of eight years for being “old” and overweight.  He’s accused of being old, apparently, because he lived a life that did not include going to clubs, running in the park, […]
