UPDATED 12/13/14 — see note below
A couple of weeks ago, I splurged and ordered a David Bowie Pizza John t-shirt from DFTBA.com in honor of Pizzamas (raise your hands if you actually understood the contents of that sentence), so when I checked my mail this afternoon (after getting to leave work three hours early–wooo!), and there was a key in there indicating I had a package, my first thought was YAY PIZZA JOHN. And then I got confused, because it was from Amazon, and I haven’t ordered anything from them in quite some time. Then I remembered: BOOK EXCHANGE!
The best part of this exchange is that when I opened it up and saw these three books staring back at me:
I literally said out loud, ‘This is from Malin!” And lo, I was right. It was from Malin. I think I might be spending too much time on this website. It’s kind of creepy (and also sort of cool?) that I could instantly know it was from her.
Thanks, Malin! Also, thanks to Katie (faintingviolet) for arranging and coordinating! And also also thanks to all y’all for being huge nerds and writing about books on the internet every day.
UPDATE: I may have jumped the gun on posting this. I got another package in the mail this afternoon from Malin! Lesson you should all learn: Having Malin as your exchange partner is THE BEST.

That was marvelous! As are you, Malin, and FaintingViolet.
Ha, thanks.
Ha! I love that you knew I was your CBR gift partner even before you read the notes (even if it may mean I’m very predictable). You have SO many books on your TBR list that I absolutely adore. I had to share my love. That, and the fact that Amazon now has a 35 dollar limit to get free shipping may result in me going a bit overboard. I consider this, and my annual donation to Worldbuilder’s, my way of making the world a better place through books. Worldbuilder’s on a big scale, and my CBR gifts to you on a very small scale. And I can’t wait to read all your reviews!
You should totally read Hogfather this Christmas. It’s pretty much essential holiday reading. :D
I’ve been checking the blog three times a day every day since I got the shipping confirmation – so glad they arrived! I really hope you like these books. To me, they’re all five star reads, and Kushiel’s Dart, Hogfather and A Week to Be Wicked are pretty much Desert Island keepers for me. With the exception of Ultraviolet (which I only discovered last year), I ‘ve also re-read all of the books more than once.
Thank you!
I really want to read Hogfather, but I’m currently experiencing cognitive dissonance about it. Reading books out of order is almost physically painful for me . . . but maybe I can push past it! I think I heard about Ultraviolet from you, and I put it on my list. Isn’t that the one with the MC who has synaesthesia? I probably told you this on your review, but I have synaesthesia, so I’m excited to read about someone who has it, too.
I’m so excited to read all of these!!
That’s the one! I remembered that someone on CBR told me that they too had synaesthesia, but I didn’t remember that it was actually you. Even more fortuitous gift match!
Also, I totally understand the not reading books out of order, I tend to get very twitchy about it too. While in many cases, I would say that Pratchett easily can be read out of order, because there are so many different series within the Discworld series (the Guards, the Wizards, the Witches, the stand-alone ones, the Moist books later in the series), I would also read those books in order. So if you haven’t read Soul Music yet, I would wait with Hogfather. It’s a great book any time of the year, it’s just even more awesome around Christmas.
P.S. I think I knew you were my partner immediately because a) I’m really intuitive, and b) I’ve been reading your reviews for three years now, and I know what books you like :)
Huzzah!
I had an evil laugh when I assigned Malin to take care of Narfna for Book Exchange, this post is exactly what I was hoping for when I did!
Then I guess I should give you another thank you for assigning me such a good partner :)
Yay Kushiel’s Dart! So flippin’ good!
I’m going to read it next year! I’m excited . . . and scared.
I need a pizza john shirt too!
I finally got it in the mail and it is now my favorite t-shirt. It is so so so weird and no one will understand it when I wear it.
