I would like a copy of the ‘Buggre Alle This’ Bible.

This is one of those books that are good when you first read them, but get better as you get older. A lot of satire is probably like that, especially comic satire. I thought this book was funny in 2009, but now parts of it made me laugh so hard I was crying. Plus, I did the audio this time, and it made it even better. Martin Jarvis has a nice sense of comic timing, and his voice characterization is great, particularly for Crowley and Aziraphale. (The […]

Guards! Guards! Is about the people in fantasy novels we don’t see much, you know, the ones that storm in during a climatic scene for our hero storming the castle. Only these people are faceless, slain without mercy and never heard from again…Till now. Guards! Guards! Deals with the night watch of Ankh-Morpok, which has dwindled down to just three. The city runs fine without them, divided into their own guilds, such as the theives guild or the assassin’s guild. The night watch just sort […]

I’ve been reading more Terry Pratchetts as the days have gotten colder and darker (Denmark is so, SO dark.) They always make me chuckle; his wit is brilliant. The little puns (“gastro-gnome”) and subversions of expectation are perfect, and I really adore the way no character is above being made fun of. To my mind, the Watch books exemplify these brilliant talents best. That might be because I’ve read most of them, but I also think it’s that the combination of characters is just done […]
