It’s the night before Hogswatch and the Hogfather is missing. Without him delivering presents the little children will lose their belief and without it the sun will not come up. This calls for the intervention of one man – Death (well… one anthropomorphic personification anyway) – to masquerade as the Hogfather and help restore faith that the light will return. Yes, it’s a Discworld novel, buried midway through the series and featuring everybody’s favourite Grim Reaper. We’re also reunited with his grand-daughter Susan (currently acting […]
“LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?”
Its been quite awhile since I read my last Discworld novel, but I wanted to read Hogfather this year (a goal I will be missing by a few days, but I’ve got it out from the library) and my need to read the various subseries in their orders meant I decided to go back and pick up where I left off with Death. I found myself with Reaper Man (and Soul Music) in my to read queue. Death (in all caps) is a loveable character […]

I’ve been reading more Terry Pratchetts as the days have gotten colder and darker (Denmark is so, SO dark.) They always make me chuckle; his wit is brilliant. The little puns (“gastro-gnome”) and subversions of expectation are perfect, and I really adore the way no character is above being made fun of. To my mind, the Watch books exemplify these brilliant talents best. That might be because I’ve read most of them, but I also think it’s that the combination of characters is just done […]
