Death by Eyeball

January 24, 2017 by emmalita Leave a Comment

Original Sin was a Marvel Comics miniseries. I read the collected 8 issues of the main story. There were also tie in issues, which I did not read. Original Sin hits a weak spot in my recent comic book hobby.

I started reading comic books two years ago, mostly because of the MCU movies. Despite that, I’ve mostly stuck to single character series like Ms. Marvel or Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye run. Marvel characters have a long and complicated history that I barely understand. I might have enjoyed the series more if I had more familiarity with the characters. There were a lot of characters and I didn’t know a lot of them. A lot happened that I didn’t understand. It’s hard for me to tell if it’s a problem with me or the story. Also, Nick Fury is white and Emma Frost’s costume has tit window that goes all the way down to her booty shorts.

It’s dumb, right? Gamora was able to leave her ribbon onesie behind and wear pants. Why couldn’t Emma? I ask this knowing nothing about Emma Frost. She’s part of the X-Men and I haven’t watched many of the X-Men movies or read any of their comic books.

It is a strange story with a lot of characters, twists and plots that went nowhere. To be fair, some of those stories were probably resolved in the tie in stories. As a reader with a life outside of Marvel, I found it unrewarding. I’m not going to get into the side stories of the bajillion tie in issues, because then I’d have to get into that character’s main stories and that’s too much work.

It was fine. I enjoyed reading it. There’s still a lot I don’t understand, but I’ll survive.
