Harry Potter and Back to the Future II

April 10, 2017 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

This is kind of a bummer in general. I hadn’t planned on reading this, and even thought about reading it one day at Barnes and Noble and just sort of decided not to. Then, they had it available on Overdrive when I was sort of looking for something to take up some dinnertime reading. And now I have read it.

It’s like a what-if comic book or one of the evil ream episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It’s not only not very good; but it’s also meaningless ultimately.

It’s a weird diversion away from other good writing out there to pick this up and read it. More or less like fan fiction written by (more or less so) the actual author.

So basically, if you don’t know the plot, which I am sure you do by this point. Harry Potter’s and Draco Malfoy’s kids are friends at Hogwarts, both having been sorted in Slytherin. The Ministry of Magic has recovered a time-turner, when all others had been destroyed for good reason. They meet Amos Diggory who wants to use the time-turner to save Cedric and then they also meet a mystery woman named Delphi (GET IT??) and they decide to try to save Cedric. Turns out time-travel is tough and you shouldn’t do it.

Basically the next fifty pages is all the different bad worlds they come across. Hermione and Ron don’t get married in one, Harry is dead in another, and like all time travel/multiple dimension stories I get panicky when things seem periled. But don’t worry Harry and Draco team up and the four of them fix everything.

Sigh.

I want to read more older things and British things this year, and some that are both. Oh and I’ll probably end up reading a bunch of Italian and French writers this year too. I think. View vel veeter's reviews»
