I would have less rage watching this, because I would not have to experience the awful stage directions!

I’m a big Harry Potter fan.  I went to the midnight book and movie releases, I have Harry Potter merch, I know what house I’m in. (Gryffindor who wants to be a Hufflepuff, in case you were wondering.)  So I bought this when it first came out. Did I read it? No. And I don’t have very high expectations going into it. Because I’m the Harry Potter fan who reads fanfiction.  I’ve been reading fanfiction for over 10 years.  And in those 10+ years, I’ve […]

Harry Potter and the Mostly Good Story About His Kid

Confession: I have owned my very own copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for about 2 years, ever since I bought it at the super cool Shakespeare and Company bookstore in Paris (if you EVER have the chance to go to Paris, it’s a must visit. Try not to live there. Though, they don’t really frown upon people living there. But I digress). It has set, unread, in that time. I’m a pretty significant Potter fan, but I had heard of it being […]

Then, they had it available on Overdrive when I was sort of looking for something to take up some dinnertime reading. And now I have read it. It’s like a what-if comic book or one of the evil ream episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It’s not only not very good; […]

I Have a Lot of Feelings about “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”

February 20, 2017 by expandingbookshelf 6 Comments

*Warning: this review features a LOT of Caps Lock and has a tendency to ramble. Buckle up* Back in 2007, we all stumbled home from our midnight release parties and read the final Harry Potter book, racing against the sunrise, desperate to find out how it ended. We turned off our phones and chugged coffee, stopping only for reluctant bathroom breaks. Hours passed, and with three small words, the story that defined a generation ended: “All was well.”   Flash forward a decade. Turns […]
