TITLES ARE HARD TO THINK OF! This is book three in a trilogy about Detective Jennifer Knight. She’s a detective for Operation Moonlight, and they investigate any crime that might have a supernatural element. I like the characters in the trilogy, but we don’t see as much of them in this book as in the earlier ones. This story is all about the family involved in the crime Jennifer is investigating.
A little nine year old twin girl goes missing and is presumed kidnapped off her farm one day. Her twin sister potentially saw what happened, but she’s not speaking. Like literally not speaking.
There’s a huge search party around the grounds of the farm, the surrounding woods, and the outbuildings. Of course they don’t find her, and Detective Knight is called in as a family liaison. She basically stays with the family during the day, tries to absorb any info she can about the case, and provides them with updates from the police. Detective Knight tries to talk to the missing girl through her sister, because she’s slightly telepathic.
There are a few red herrings in this book, and I bit hard on one of them. There are diary entries from the bad guy throughout, and they really keep you guessing. Well, they kept me guessing. There’s nothing too graphic or disturbing in this story, but it is a little spooky.
I liked this trilogy. The books weren’t really related, but they did slightly reference each other. If the series kept going, I’d keep reading!
I’d give this book 3.5 stars. I think we need to figure out how to give half stars :)
