Meditation and Pizza who could ask for anything more?

April 23, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Mediation Is an Open Sky: Mindfulness for Kids is a book that describes nine different mediation exercises for kids. However, they would also work for the adult looking to start meditating. Each page is one meditation that can help with ways to focus managing stress, fears and other challenges we face. It would be a good start for anyone.  Sally Rippin has added to Stewart’s text with fun and light illustrations.

I have tried to do some medicating recently and this book is basically what I have been doing. However, I did have to adapt some of the techniques. And because of how this is written, you will be able to adapt the medications to the age of the child or yourself as well. Like how your back should be, the mediations are not “set in store” and are not “ridged”.

I cannot wait to tell Whitney that I loved her book (she and I go way back to a signing at the bookstore I work at (This was for the now out of print title Blues Across the Bay).  Her Becoming Buddha: The Story of Siddharth is also an amazingly beautiful picture book about Buddha (she also has some great biographies for children and adult).  These are just a small section of what she has to offer.

Now I would not say I love her book better than Pizza, but I do have to say it was a tasty treat. Just like I Love You Better Than Pizza by Christine Carrol and Jamie Miller. I add this title to this review because it has a theme I think people who like Meditation Is an Open Sky. The little girl in the story hates going to bed and finds ways to delay the act. What made me think of them being similar is the game she and her mother play, “I love You Better than Pizza.” This clever game could be a relaxing game for the child who is not ready for sitting and mediating, but does need to have a sit and time-out moment or two.
