Nothing is Fishy with Something’s Fishy

June 29, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Something’s Fishy is a nontraditional graphic novel. Not set up in the panels that we think of for graphic novels, still, the story and illustrations are one. The story is told while the other characters react but all naturally and flowing into one and another. There is no separation of the two. This is a casual take to present facts in a fun manner. The other pets in the story have some interesting antics that help move things along, but also makes you stop and look around. These fun illustrations and a few cute surprises along the way make this a great book for the classroom or personal library.

We think we know about fish, however, the author gives you the big picture. Starting off with an alphabet of the different types, he then goes into the story and art. There were facts I knew, some I did not know and some I thought I knew.

You can tell that Kevin McCloskey enjoys his work. He enjoys fish, telling you about them and creating art. He has a sense of humor, but does not cover up the facts with it. It is a great story as well as a portal to let you know about all the amazing fish in the world.

I will now have to find his other books: We Dig Worms!, Snails are Just My Speed and The Real Poop on Pigeons. The mix of humor and science will make even a non-fan of the subject of fish (and I am assuming worms, snails and pigeons) at least satisfied that they read it or had it read to them.
