Nothing is Fishy with Something’s Fishy

June 29, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Something’s Fishy is a nontraditional graphic novel. Not set up in the panels that we think of for graphic novels, still, the story and illustrations are one. The story is told while the other characters react but all naturally and flowing into one and another. There is no separation of the two. This is a casual take to present facts in a fun manner. Killer Lady!

June 20, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I had forgotten I had read Swimming with Sharks by Heather Lang (illustrated by Jordi Solano). Therefore, when picking up Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating I figured it was the first time I had been introduced to Eugenie Clark. While reading, I realized it was the same person. The nice thing was, they are so radically different that even if you have read one you can read the other and enjoy it, […]

I would assume by the traditionally stereotypical clothing and hair, that it is a father and son story. Therefore, it would make a nice Father’s Day read-together. However, looking at the cover again, I could easily say this was an older brother or even […]

A Whole Life In 300 Pages

June 25, 2015 by Ale 2 Comments

This book is part of my reading list for my masters, and as such, not something I would have ever picked off the shelf, especially based on its title (it sounds like a beach read to me, which I tend to stay away from). However, I’m happy to report that I loved this book. Spanning the early 1940s to 1999, “The End of the Point” follows a WASP family’s history through their summer vacations in Ashaunt, Massachusetts.  Told through the eyes of the family nurse […]
