I had to stop reading this at night

July 27, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is a very short story, and it almost feels like a cheat to have it as one of my CBR books for the year, but here we are.  After reading Obscura (which was one of my recent reviews), I wanted more Joe Hart.  So I downloaded a few short stories that were available on Kindle Unlimited.  I started to read this story the other night laying in my bed, and I actually had to stop and read it during the day.

It’s at its core a love story.  Two people meet, flirt, and fall in love.

Then one night Del (the wife) goes missing.  Her husband (let’s call him Mr. Del) looks all over for her, and finally finds her bobbing in the ocean.  He tries to go out and save her, but she disappears.  She shows up later on the beach but she looks a little funny.  They have sex, and at some point she says something creepy, but they’re having sex, so he doesn’t think about it until the next day.

The part where he was out looking for her and when he finally found her creeped me out.  The rest of is is just a little bit dread inducing, not actually scary.  I probably could’ve finished it at night and been ok.  I was just kinda picturing sea creatures coming to get me (in my 2nd floor bedroom in my house nowhere near the ocean), and it was freaking me out.

So like I said, it’s short and a bit creepy at the beginning.  It’s definitely and interesting story, and I feel like it benefited from the format.  Too many details would’ve detracted from the mystery.  It’s a quick read, and it’s free if you’ve got Kindle Unlimited.  Check it out – 3.5 stars!

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»
